The short version: Your diary stays on your device. Talkary was designed so that your voice is never uploaded, your entries live in your phone's local storage, and we run no accounts and no ads.
What we collect and where it lives
Your voice. Recording and speech-to-text happen entirely on your device using Apple's on-device speech recognition. Your audio never leaves your device. We have no servers that receive audio.
Your diary entries (transcripts, polished diary text, mood and topic tags) are stored locally on your device. They are not uploaded to our servers and we cannot read them. If you delete the app, they are deleted with it.
AI processing (text only). When AI features are enabled, the text of a new entry is sent over an encrypted connection to our processing service to compose your diary text, and a summary of your week's entries (never your raw spoken words) is sent to compose your weekly letter. This text is processed to generate the response and is not used to build a profile of you, not sold, and not shared with advertisers. Our AI provider is Google (Gemini API, paid tier), which processes it under their Gemini API Additional Terms of Service.
Usage analytics. We collect anonymous events (e.g., "an entry was created", "the weekly report was opened") to understand which features matter. These contain no diary content and no identity.
Purchases. Subscriptions are processed by Apple. We receive purchase status (e.g., "Plus is active"), never your payment details.
What we don't do
No accounts. We don't know who you are.
No ads, no trackers, no sale of data, no data brokers.
No access to your contacts, photos, or location.
Your controls
Delete any entry, or all data, at any time by deleting entries or the app itself.
Microphone access can be revoked anytime in iOS Settings; you can keep journaling by typing.
